Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Lives: Our mission is to help Sudanese refugees and IDPs seeking safety from war by providing essential medical care, food, and supplies through the Saving Alginina Initiative.
We uphold the humanitarian principles of compassion in action - Treat : Heal : Transform. We affirmatively engage the most vulnerable communities. We value Inclusiveness and collaboration to achieve revitalization of community.
The Saving Alginina Initiative is a bi-national Initiative that formed after the events of the war in June 2023 to help a large number of families who were forced to flee from their homes to the Chadian border region of Adré because of the outbreak of violence. We want them to have a safe refuge and a dignified life. We help IDPs in refugee camps in Chad, as well as, in Al Qardarif, Sennar, Khartoum, Al-Jazeera, and North Darfur states in Sudan. SAI was founded by Sadeia Hamid and Mozamil Mohamed in July 2023.
We began our work as the Saving AlGeneina Initiative to honor the Al Geneina district of West Darfur state in Sudan. To help with pronunciation for English language speakers - and things like a name were less important than providing food, medicine, and hope to 25 million Sudanese fleeing war - we have inconsistant spellings, as you may see across our social media but we eventually chose the Saving Alginina Initiative. We have registered as a charity in in Sudan as Safe Haven Organization and in Chad as Hope and Haven for Refugees Association.
The Saving Alginina Initiative is a volunteer operated network of crisis rescue with charitable support for displaced Sudanese families in Chad and Sudan. Our applications to register as a charitable organization in both Sudan and Chad have been approved as of November 2024. We are pursuing registration as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in the United States of America as well.
In June of 2024 we began work to provide stable shelters for 60,000 Sudanese refugees. As of August 2024 over 90% of the refugees in King Camp, Eastern Chad, face inadequate shelter as the autumn season brings increased rainfall and wind. This lack of proper shelter exposes them to the elements and increases the risk of waterborne diseases and respiratory infections. We aim to distribute high-quality tarpaulins lasting 6 months, medium-quality tarpaulins lasting 3 months, and basic tarpaulins lasting 1 month to a total of 24,926 beneficiaries.
In June 2024, our efforts to celebrate Eid brought food staples and the difficult to procure food of meat to many displaced families. We collaborated with Darfur Victims Advocacy Organization, Humanitarian Development and Promotion Organization, Fal Relief and Development Organization, Vienna Islamic Centre, and the Hadreen Organization to provide for families fleeing war and violence.
Since October 2023, our initiative, with the support of several partners, has helped refugees with health care expertise provide urgent medical treatment for Sudanese refugees. The medical field clinic is overwhelmed but the refugees with medical training volunteer to provide an emergency room, small surgery room, general doctor, obstetrics and gynecology, laboratory, and pharmacy. While the clinic lacks essential resources, including electricity, fans, fencing, patient transport chairs and a kitchen to provide meals to volunteers, it is one of the only medical clinics in the Adre Camp and provides life saving services.
To bring aid to as many of the over 25 million displaced Sudanese refugees we ask that you contribute to one of our fundraising campaigns in our linktr.ee page. Every donation matters in this time of crisis. The Saving Alginina Initiative has established relationships with refugees and officials in several camps in Chad. Over the past year SAI has built connections with displaced and remaining families across Sudan that give us unique access to provide food, hygiene supplies and medical treatment - this is especially important in a time when many routes of aide are blocked. Because we have been providing aide for over a year in the region we have developed a trust with the communities of refugees as we provide all we can to help them rebuild their life and restore their hope.
Please reach out to us at savingalginia@gmail.com to connect with our team. As a volunteer run organization we rely on each other to provide aid to displaced Sudanese families across Sudan and Chad. SAI is appreciative of help with any of the following skills or industries: Medicine, Medical Training, Medication and Vaccine Donations, Meal Preparation and Distribution, Education, Logistics, Accounting, Fundraising, and Social Media.
When the war in Sudan erupted in June 2023 the Saving Alginina Initiative’s founders immediately began to work to heal the physical wounds and psychological trauma of surviving violent clashes between warring factions in the country. Nearly half of Sudan’s population, over 25 million people, need help. To save millions from violence and famine an international aide effort is needed. You can help by using your voice to petition your local representatives for humanitarian support and to encourage a peaceful resolution.
